Dumpster Pads and Shop Slabs for Businesses

A dumpster pad holds the container, and the apron in front of it holds the truck. The trash truck stops on that apron each time it lifts a loaded container. So the apron is built for truck weight, just like the pad.

A shop slab for a business building follows that building's plans. Equipment pads for generators and mechanical units can go in on the same job. Slabs for a house or a garage are on our concrete slabs page.

Every slab and pad shrinks as it dries, so control joints give it a planned place to crack. The ready-mix industry's paving guidance ties joint spacing to thickness. At 6 inches or more, its table tops out at 15 feet between joints.

Do Walks and Parking at a Business Have to Meet ADA Rules?

The federal ADA standards set slope limits for the accessible route from parking to the entrance. A walk on that route can climb no more than 1 foot in 20, or 5 percent. Its cross slope, the tilt from side to side, can be no steeper than 1 in 48.

Anything steeper than 5 percent counts as a ramp, and a ramp can be no steeper than 1 in 12. Accessible parking spaces and their access aisles can slope no more than 1 in 48.

Your designer and the local building office confirm what applies to your lot. We set the forms and pour the walks and parking areas to the grades on the approved plan.

Commercial Concrete Around Villa Rica and West Metro Atlanta

Villa Rica sits at the center of our service area, on I-20 where Carroll County meets Douglas County. We take commercial work across the towns of west metro Atlanta.

Inside the city limits, Villa Rica's Building Development Department reviews plans for commercial sites. The city says its first plan review can take 30 business days. Its plan checklist calls for Georgia DOT approval when a site touches state right of way. Developments over an acre also need civil plans approved by the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission.

New concrete adds hard surface that rain runs off, and local stormwater rules count it. In Douglas County, the stormwater fee is figured from that hard surface. Inside Atlanta, the city requires new development and redevelopment to manage the first inch of rain on site.

FAQ

Commercial Concrete Questions, Answered

Common questions about commercial concrete around Villa Rica and the west side of metro Atlanta. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (770) 880-4224

What size commercial concrete jobs do you take on?
We pour commercial pads and slabs up to about 200 by 200 feet, plus the drives and walks around them. A dumpster pad with its apron fits our work, and so does a parking area for a shop. Highway paving, parking decks, tilt-up walls and large industrial floors are work for other contractors.
How much does commercial concrete cost?
The price depends on the site, so we look at it and put the quote in writing. Square footage and the thickness the traffic calls for come first. Grading, base stone, steel and any tear-out add to it, and so does access for the ready-mix truck.
How thick should a dumpster pad be?
The apron carries the trash truck, so the thickness comes from the site plan or a local standard. Fulton County's public works standard detail is one local example. It shows 6 inches of concrete with wire mesh over 6 inches of compacted crusher run.
Does a driveway at my business need a permit?
That depends on the road it meets. A drive onto a state route, such as GA 61, needs a permit from the Georgia Department of Transportation. The property owner applies for that one. For city and county streets, ask the local permit office before the job starts.
Do you take commercial jobs in Atlanta?
Yes. Atlanta is part of our service area, about 33 road miles east of Villa Rica on I-20. Commercial work there runs under the city's own permit and stormwater rules. Our page on concrete work in Atlanta covers those in more detail.
What do you need from me to quote a commercial job?
Start with the address and what you need poured, plus a site plan if the job has one. Tell us what will drive on it, such as delivery trucks or the trash truck. Then we look at the site, and the quote comes to you in writing. Call or text (770) 880-4224 to start.
