One in four Marietta homes went up in the 1980s, and the Census puts the median year built at 1987. If the driveway is the original, it is close to 40 years old. A drive that breaks up or sends water toward the garage is ready for a tear out and re-pour. In the Kennesaw Avenue historic district, many lots were platted before cars were common.
Pro One Concrete works as a concrete contractor in Marietta, inside the city limits and out in unincorporated Cobb County. Marietta is part of our service area, which centers on Villa Rica, about 30 road miles to the southwest. Here we pour concrete driveways and full replacements, plus house and garage slabs. Call or text (770) 880-4224, and we look at the job and put the quote in writing.
Tell us about the driveway, slab or foundation and where the property is. We look at the job and put the quote in writing.
A Marietta mailing address does not always mean the city. At the 2020 Census, about 335,000 people lived in Marietta ZIP codes, and the city counted about 61,000. Nearly all of the rest lived in unincorporated Cobb County.
That matters for permits, because Georgia leaves each city and county to set its own permit rules. Inside the city limits, the City of Marietta's Building Inspection Division issues building permits. In unincorporated Cobb, the Building Division of Cobb County Community Development does. The city says building permits are required for all new construction.
Find out which office covers the address before you plan a new home or an addition. For a driveway or a patio, ask that same office what it needs before the work starts.
Kennesaw Avenue became the city's first local residential historic district in 2013. The Church Cherokee Streets district followed in 2016, and Forest Hills in 2017. In these districts, new or changed paving seen from the street needs a Certificate of Appropriateness. The Marietta Historic Preservation Commission issues it, and the city will not issue a building permit there without one.
The city's guidelines for the Kennesaw Avenue district note that most drives there are narrow, sized for early cars. They ask that a new driveway fit the width and spacing of the drives around it.
The same guidelines name poured concrete as one of the most common driveway materials there. We pour plain broom-finished concrete. If your drive sits in a district, talk with the commission before the old one comes out.
The soil survey maps the Marietta Square as Urban land and Cecil soil, on 2 to 10 percent slopes. Across the city, Gwinnett and Madison soils cover the most natural ground. Both have a red clay subsoil that starts within about a foot of the surface. The survey maps more than half of the city on slopes of 10 percent or steeper.
On a sloped lot, a driveway or slab needs a firm, even base. The grade should send rain away from the house and the garage. Seven named creeks cross the city limits, among them Sope Creek and Rottenwood Creek. The city's stormwater program protects waters that drain to the Chattahoochee River and Lake Allatoona.
Marietta is still adding houses. The Census Bureau counted 112 new single-family homes permitted in the city in 2025, up from 22 in 2023. Each new house sits on a slab or a foundation.
For a crawl space house or an addition, we pour block foundations on poured footings. A detached garage or a shop on the same lot can sit on a concrete slab.
A new commercial site inside the city needs site plans approved by the city engineer in Public Works. Roswell Street, from Haynes Street to Cobb Parkway, also sits in the city's Commercial Corridor Design Overlay. The city is working to draw companies to the Franklin Gateway corridor. For a shop or a business lot, we pour commercial concrete such as pads and approaches.
